Korea Post Acquires 200 Electric Vans

The PV5 Cargo model is based on Kia’s E-GMP electric platform, specifically designed for Purpose-Built Vehicles (PBVs). For Korea Post, Kia focused on features such as a low vehicle floor, which reduces physical strain during the frequent entering and exiting required on delivery routes. Additionally, the vehicle is equipped with driver-assistance systems designed to improve driving performance and road safety.

Prior to receiving the order, Kia subjected the PV5 Cargo to an extensive evaluation process involving actual postal operations, lasting approximately two months last year.

Between September and November, the vehicles were put into service at the central post offices of South Korea's nine regional postal administrations. According to reports by *Chosun Biz*, the trials evaluated the vehicle's ability to adapt to daily postal delivery operations.

Subsequently, feedback provided by employees during this real-world test was incorporated into the version destined for Korea Post. Through collaboration with a partner specializing in light commercial vehicle (PBV) conversions, the cargo area features an aluminum floor and a flat loading surface. Furthermore, a safety mechanism has been implemented to prevent damage to the doors during loading and unloading operations.

Beyond supplying the vehicles, Kia is committed to supporting Korea Post in the rollout of its electric fleet. This includes training for fleet managers as well as customized charging and maintenance solutions.

The PV5 model marks the initial launch of Kia’s new PBV family. It will initially be offered in both passenger and cargo versions. Other versions are anticipated, such as an open-bed model, a WAV (Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle) designed for transporting wheelchair users, and a chassis-cab variant. Additionally, Kia is collaborating on PBV initiatives with other South Korean companies and organizations, including the energy company Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO).

Kia also recently unveiled the PV7 at the IAA Transportation trade show in Hanover. Compared to the PV5—the second model in its PBV strategy—the PV7 not only offers larger dimensions, increased cargo space, and higher battery energy capacity, but also adopts 800-volt technology.
