Quehenberger doubles its fleet of battery-electric trucks
Quehenberger Logistics stands out as a pioneer in the field of fully electric freight transport in Austria. Since 2018, the company has been a pilot customer for the MAN eTGM—a 26-tonne battery-electric truck designed for distribution transport—which was subsequently produced in a limited series.
Much has happened since then; Quehenberger currently holds the largest contract for electric vehicles to date, signed with the drugstore chain dm. In 2024, Quehenberger put the first three battery-electric trucks into service for this client. Since the spring of this year, the company has been supplying approximately 100 dm stores in Vienna using ten electric trucks.

By the end of the year, Quehenberger’s electric fleet is expected to grow further, though the company—headquartered in Straßwalchen, near Salzburg—has not disclosed the identities of the clients for these new electric trucks. In any case, the number of electric trucks is projected to rise from 13 to 24 by the end of 2026, a process that will also include the expansion of the necessary charging infrastructure. According to the company, 60% of its Austrian fleet will be electric-powered in the future. Looking further ahead, the electric fleet is set to expand even more, with the addition of 50 more electric trucks over the next two years.
"We are convinced that electric mobility is an essential part of the future of freight transport," explained Christian Fürstaller, CEO of Quehenberger Logistics. "For this reason, we are continuously expanding both our electric fleet and our charging infrastructure." Quehenberger’s early acquisition of experience with electric vehicles—starting with its first electric truck in 2018—has proven to be a key factor in its current success. "We pass this experience directly on to our clients," added Fürstaller.
According to Quehenberger, the key to successfully implementing electric trucks lies in using them selectively and intelligently. They are particularly well-suited for urban distribution, predictable routes, and operational areas that feature optimal charging infrastructure.

Andreas Letsch, Managing Director of Quehenberger Logistics, emphasized the importance of a systematic approach to electric mobility in freight transport, rejecting any "haphazard" strategy. "The key to success lies in the precise analysis of operational profiles, strategic route planning, and intelligent integration into existing logistics processes. This is precisely where our extensive experience comes into play."
At present, Quehenberger has not disclosed the specific electric truck models it currently uses or those it plans to acquire. However, based on previous information, the company operates several Volvo FM Electric units.
