An Post and DHL Express Ireland connect electric vehicles to electricity flexibility markets.

Miele purchases 840 electric transport vehicles.

These vehicles are intended for private and commercial customers throughout Europe. This situation derives from a European-wide tender called by Miele for the years 2026 and 2027. Finally, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles (VWN) was awarded the contract. Likewise, the vehicles will be equipped with Sortimo accessories for tools and spare parts.

Just over half of the 840 electric transport vehicles are destined for Germany, where 440 vehicles will be put into service. At this time, the specific models of electric transport vehicles that Miele has ordered, nor the battery or propulsion system variants that will be used, have not been disclosed.

Miele is in an advanced transition stage within the professional customer service sector. In this context, it is anticipated that, in the future, the vast majority of the approximately 420 employees will use battery-electric transport vehicles. Miele mentions that the share of electric vehicles is close to 100%.

30% of the services provided to Miele private customers correspond to electrical products.

In the field of domestic customer service, this proportion is significantly reduced. According to the information provided by the company, approximately 30% of the vehicles currently used in this sector are battery electric. As the fleet is renewed, this proportion is expected to increase. However, Miele has not specified a target figure or timeline for full electrification.

The collaboration between Miele and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles goes back several years. At the market launch of the ID. Buzz Cargo, Miele began the deployment of five vehicles for customer service in Germany, Austria, Great Britain, Norway and Spain in 2022. At that time, the vehicles had a meticulously designed interior adapted to customer service, with space for materials, spare parts and tools.

This initial rollout has since led to a considerably larger fleet transition. According to Miele, the information collected about range, charging times, energy consumption, everyday ease of use and feedback from service technicians were incorporated into the requirements of the new tender.

In addition to the electric drive system, the vehicle equipment plays an extremely important role. Miele and VWN highlight the lightness of Sortimo accessories, designed to reduce the additional weight of the vehicle and, therefore, minimize energy consumption. However, the companies have not provided specific details about the possible weight savings or the vehicles' consumption. With this transition, Miele is committed to reducing direct CO2 emissions from its customer service. The company has not quantified the expected savings derived from the 840 new vehicles.
