JSW Cement acquires 100 electric trucks from Ampstar
JSW Cement plans to use these 100 heavy-duty electric trucks to transport clinker and slag along a route of approximately 330 kilometers between Vijayanagar (Karnataka) and Nandyal (Andhra Pradesh). It is estimated that these trucks will transport 125,000 tons of cargo per month. Ampstar projects that this zero-emission fleet will reduce JSW Cement’s diesel consumption by approximately 45 million liters, resulting in a reduction of about 6,250 tons of CO2 emissions over the term of the contract.
Ampstar has procured 100 heavy-duty electric trucks, which will serve as 55-ton 4x2 tractor units. The company offers this model in two versions: one with a fixed battery and another with a swappable battery. JSW Cement has opted for the latter for this deployment. JSW Eco-Mobility, a subsidiary of JSW Greentech, will be responsible for installing four battery-swapping stations between Vijayanagar and Nandyal. Paradeep Parivahan Limited, based in Jagatsinghpur (Odisha), will act as the logistics partner.

Last month, Ampstar launched its 55-ton electric tractor, available in both 4x2 and 6x4 configurations. The company states that this model is suitable for various trailer types, including sidewall, tipper, skeletal, flatbed, and bulk-carrier trailers. Alongside the announcement of its first commercial sale, it was revealed that both versions have received certification under the Central Motor Vehicles Rules (CMVR) from the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI).
At the unveiling of its 55-ton electric tractor last month, Ampstar stated that the vehicle features a 420 kW motor and can be equipped with a 282 kWh LFP battery—available in either a fixed or swappable configuration—offering a range of 140 to 150 km. For the 100 units to be supplied to JSW Cement, the company will use a 430 kW motor. While the range for this specific configuration has not been disclosed, the additional 10 kW of power is likely to have only a marginal impact on the vehicle's range.

Ampstar has also recently introduced a 12-meter electric bus designed for personnel transport. The company anticipates delivering between 500 and 2,000 additional electric vehicles by March 2027. Manufacturing will take place at a newly constructed, 90-acre facility located in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, in the state of Maharashtra.
