Green SM Launches Electric Taxi Service in the U.S.
On October 13, Green SM launched its electric taxi service in the United States, specifically in Los Angeles, California. Customers can book rides via a mobile app—available on the App Store and Google Play—or through traditional methods, such as calling the customer service line or hailing a taxi on the street.
To promote its launch, Green SM is offering customers a 50% discount (capped at $12 per trip) on their first five rides. Additionally, the company is providing a complimentary "Green Pass" subscription, which includes ten vouchers—each offering a 30% discount, capped at $10 per trip.

Commenting on the company’s entry into this new market, Hoang Thanh Hang, CEO of Green SM in the U.S., stated: "The United States represents a significant milestone in Green SM’s growth trajectory. This launch signifies more than just an expansion of our business operations into a new market; our goal is to earn the trust of customers, drivers, and local communities—one ride at a time."
While Green SM operates both electric scooters and cars in Asian markets, its U.S. operations are limited to cars. The fleet in Los Angeles consists exclusively of the VinFast VF 8—a mid-size SUV and the brand’s most affordable model in the U.S., with a starting price of $39,900.

In the U.S. market, the VinFast VF 8 is available in two variants: one featuring all-wheel drive and a dual-motor setup (delivering 260 kW of power and 500 Nm of torque), and another offering 300 kW of power and 620 Nm of torque. Both feature an 87.7 kWh NMC battery, as rated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The EPA estimates a range of 256 miles for the first version and 235 miles for the second. Green SM has not disclosed the specific configuration chosen for its fleet, nor whether it utilizes both options.
Pham Nhat Vuong, chairman of Vingroup—the parent company of VinFast—founded Green SM in 2023. The company operates exclusively using VinFast electric vehicles and has, to date, completed approximately 850 million trips, totaling nearly six billion kilometers. In addition to the United States, it offers electric transport services in India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Laos, and the Philippines (in Asia), as well as in Denmark and the Netherlands (in Europe).
