An Post Electrifies 50% of Its Fleet

This milestone was reached in September 2025, though it has only now been disclosed, coinciding with the publication of An Post’s 2025 Sustainability Report. It is now confirmed that electric vehicles account for more than half of the company’s delivery fleet.

Expanding the electric fleet remains a priority. During the first half of this year, An Post deployed 575 new electric vans, approximately 30% of which replaced diesel-powered vehicles. The remaining units replaced older-generation electric vehicles that had shorter battery ranges.

However, the postal operator has exclusively integrated battery-electric vans into its delivery fleet; its heavy-duty vehicles continue to run on fuel. While the company confirmed that 95% of its truck fleet transitioned from diesel to hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) during the fourth quarter of 2025, it is essential to evaluate the effectiveness of this measure, as well as its impact on sustainability and operational efficiency.

Alongside the electrification of its fleet, An Post has announced that 99% of its facilities now operate using renewable energy. "The battle for sustainability is ongoing, and the need is as urgent as ever," stated An Post CEO David McRedmond.

Owen Keogh, An Post’s Head of Sustainability, noted that the latest report demonstrates "how sustainability and commercial success can advance hand in hand." As previously mentioned, the deployment of 575 new, larger electric vehicles in the first half of this year—combined with a greater focus on optimizing green energy and supporting circular economy initiatives—contributes significantly to the company’s progress toward its green energy goals.
