Grab to Expand Its Autonomous Vehicle Fleet in Singapore

Grab currently operates ten autonomous vehicles in its Singapore fleet and plans to add forty more units by March 2027. The company offers an "Ai.R" (Autonomously Intelligent Ride) transport service using its current fleet in the Punggol district, located in the city-state's northeast. Once the necessary regulatory approvals are secured, the additional 40 autonomous vehicles are expected to be deployed to expand the service to other areas of Singapore.

Grab has not disclosed details regarding the new autonomous vehicles it plans to put into service over the next six months. In August 2025, the company made a strategic investment in WeRide, a Chinese robotaxi firm. In April 2026, ten GXR models—developed on Farizon’s SuperVAN platform—were deployed. It is possible that WeRide’s GXR model will also be used for the additional 40 autonomous vehicles as part of this partnership.

The current autonomous vehicle fleet has covered a total of over 110,000 kilometers in autonomous mode and transported more than 12,000 unique passengers. Grab states that 99% of passengers would recommend the service and that the waiting list exceeds 1,000 people. Regarding operations, thirty of the company's driver-partners have obtained the certification required to become autonomous vehicle safety operators. Six of these driver-partners work as remote operators, while others are assigned to train the next group.

Grab currently offers the Ai.R transport service on three routes. One route begins at Matilda Court and ends at Oasis Terrace, with two intermediate stops. The estimated travel time is 50 minutes. The second route connects Punggol Coast Mall with Punggol Northshore, featuring a total of three intermediate stops and a similar travel time. A more efficient version of this route includes a single stop at One Punggol and takes 20 minutes.

Commenting on the recently announced plans to expand the autonomous vehicle fleet, Grab President and COO Alex Hungate stated: "Thanks to the trust of Punggol residents, Grab possesses the most extensive experience in operating autonomous vehicles in Southeast Asia. We are continuously improving our service by incorporating valuable community feedback and leveraging the data and technology from our renowned on-demand transport service."
