Belgian Post’s fleet includes 4,165 electric delivery vans

Belgium’s postal service is accelerating the electrification of its delivery fleet. The company has substantially expanded its fleet of electric vehicles, now totaling 4,165 delivery vans—a fourfold increase compared to three years ago. In 2023, Bpost had approximately 1,000 electric delivery vans; this figure surpassed 2,000 vehicles by the summer of 2024 and reached 3,000 by the summer/autumn of 2025. According to official sources, the pace of acquisition represents an increase of about 1,000 electric delivery vans per year.

For 2026, Bpost plans to continue expanding its electric van fleet at a similar rate, with the addition of 900 units—part of a recent order—to its current fleet of approximately 1,100 electric delivery vans. The remaining 200 units from this order are expected to be integrated into the fleet by the end of the year. A significant portion of these vehicles is supplied by Stellantis; for instance, the images below show electric vans from the Citroën brand. Meanwhile, the installation of approximately 3,300 charging points across Bpost facilities throughout Belgium has been completed.

According to the company, these electric delivery vans are replacing internal combustion engine (ICE) delivery vans that have reached the end of their service life. However, during the upcoming peak season in November and December, they will initially be used alongside conventional delivery vehicles, which will then be gradually phased out. Bpost highlights that “more than 150 postal codes are served by delivery routes with zero direct emissions, covering both letters and parcels.” This initiative marks a significant step toward the company’s goal of transitioning 85% of its “last-mile” delivery fleet to carbon-emission-free transport by the end of this decade.

Rik Vandenberghe, Bpost’s national director of fleet and equipment, commented: “The renewal of our fleet is part of a broader transformation of our logistics network. Over the past three years, we have seen a remarkable increase in the number of electric vans, growing from approximately 1,000 to more than 4,000. Through these vehicles—along with our electric bicycles, bicycle trailers, and electric trucks—we are gradually adapting our operations to meet future demands, while continuing to provide reliable service throughout Belgium.”

Vandenberghe’s statement makes it clear: Bpost’s electrification efforts extend beyond just delivery vans. The electric fleet has expanded substantially and currently includes 3,013 electric bicycles, 556 electric bicycle trailers, and two electric trucks.
