Austrian Post Achieves Zero-Emission Deliveries in Vienna
Austrian Post had initially set a primary goal of achieving zero-emission deliveries in Vienna by the end of 2025. Although this milestone was reached slightly later than planned, the company has now officially completed the transition. The event took place at Vienna’s Heldenplatz, attended by renowned actor and climate advocate Arnold Schwarzenegger, just one day before the opening of the "Austrian World Summit" climate conference.
"The continuous expansion of its electric logistics fleet demonstrates Austrian Post's commitment to the transition toward a low-emission future." "Electric mobility is a crucial path to follow globally, and any investment in this area deserves attention," stated Schwarzenegger.

This transition did not happen overnight. Last summer, the company reported a fleet of 700 electric vehicles in Vienna, a figure that has since grown to 1,000 units. The fleet also includes e-bikes, electric mopeds, and deliveries made on foot.
To achieve zero-emission deliveries in Vienna, Austrian Post has invested approximately €32 million in charging infrastructure and electric vehicles. Currently, around 1,000 electric delivery vehicles cover approximately eight million kilometers annually in Vienna using only electric power, resulting in an annual saving of about 2,300 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.
Jürgen Czernohorszky, Vienna’s City Councillor for Climate, stated: "Austrian Post's decision to transform its fleet to non-fossil-fuel vehicles makes a significant contribution to climate neutrality and, consequently, to maintaining the quality of life in Vienna. Indeed, the collaboration between the city and businesses has been fundamental to achieving a significant reduction in CO2 emissions in Vienna—levels have dropped by more than a third since 2005. This partnership stands as an essential pillar in guiding Vienna toward a sustainable and energy-independent future."

Deliveries in the cities of Graz, Innsbruck, and Salzburg were already CO2-neutral prior to reaching this significant milestone. However, Vienna—with its population of approximately two million—represents a vastly different scale. Despite this achievement, Austrian Post remains committed to continuous improvement and vigilance. Following the milestone in Vienna, the company has set its next goal: by 2030, all deliveries... ...last-mile deliveries in Austria will be carried out using battery-electric vehicles or on foot. Austrian Post currently operates the country's largest electric fleet, with more than 6,000 electric vehicles.
